9kt gold is 37.5% pure gold. The rest is a mix of copper, silver, and zinc — metals that make it harder and more resistant to daily wear than higher-karat golds. In terms of color, 9kt yellow gold is slightly lighter than 18kt — there is a visible difference if you put them side by side, though most wouldn't notice it day to day. In white and rose gold, the tone difference is less apparent.
